NEW PLACES and FIJI AIRWAYS

WHERE IS BOB L NOW?

If you haven't been following, I have been bouncing around a bit. I just left the VoliVoli resort (I stayed there twice), and am now at Koro Sun Resort. Prior to that I had been at the Uprising Beach Resort, VoliVoli resort, and the Garden Island Resort. I have one more resort to go to, the Oneta Beach Resort. All of these are in Fiji. I had planned on going to the Solomon Islands, or elsewhere, but no one was getting back to me, so I let my booking agent plan my Fiji Experience.

This is the OFF season. There are very few tourists. The place we stayed with the Divers Den group out of Manchester, NH would have only had a couple of people at best had it not been for our group. VoliVoli, both times, had only a couple of guests outside of a large group that showed up for each of my stays. So far, this place has been pretty empty. I am hoping it picks up a bit.

I mentioned that met Zale Parry and that she had given an original copy of the Sports Illustrated that she was on the cover of in 1955. The young lady that received this most treasured gift has some questions. Such as why, if she was on the cover, that the article was hidden in the back? Why were there no other female athletes in the magazine? Why were there cigarette ads? Why were so many of the ads..... well, never mind.

This was what the cover of Sports Illustrated looked like in 1955.

There was a fun group from Michigan at the VoliVoli.

They gave me the spear. I think that is a good thing.

It might say something that there is a large bug on their 100 FJD note

Sad to be leaving VoliVoli and the great diving there.

FUN FLIGHT!

Fiji Airways is a very good company. Their international flights run smooth and the planes are modern and comfortable. The domestic flights are typical island afairs.

A typical Island Hopping plane

Do you see anything wrong with this picture?

That point of land is where the VoliVoli resort is.

A closer pic of the resort.

Great views on the way to my next stop.

I was beginning to wonder if we were going to make it safely. The approach to the airport was rocking and rolling. There was a decent amount of wind, but we seemed to be coming in at a steeper angle than I would have expected. When I finally looked out the front window, I realized that it was a short runway, with trees and hills on the approach. We made a smooth and safe touchdown.

This is the entire airport.

OFF SEASON PERKS

Since it is off-season, prices are a good bit lower. I was working through a booking agent who was able to get the best prices. I had asked for more. With it being so slow, between off-season and no one wanting to travel because of the Corona Virus, I thought I could do better. Well, they would not budge any more on the price, but they did offer me the romantic floating villa. Not sure what I need a romantic room for, but it is a really nice room in a fantastic location.

I get morning sun, then I get shade as it gets warmer. I plan to spend a lot of time relaxing out here.

Bula is the typical greeting.
